How to Stretch Shoes

At Clegg’s Rathmines if Men’s or Women’s shoes or boots feel slightly too tight, we stretch them to make a more comfortable fit. We can;
- Widen the front half
- Stretch the heel
- Increase an elastic section
To achieve the best fit for you we can also have Elastic sections altered, perform Zip replacement or Boot height reduction. We will do whatever is possible to make the fit a more comfortable experience.

So how much does shoe stretching and alterations cost?
Well prices starts at €15 per pair of shoes to be stretched and €20 for Boots, up to €35.00 to stretch the calf of leather boots.
Some pricing is specific to the job in hand so we would need to see the footwear in the shop.
Timeframe
Please allow five to seven working days for Shoe or Boot stretching. When you leave shoes for stretching you are hiring a machine for 24 hours (we generally leave them on for 48 hours)
For other alterations such as leather straps, adjustments, padding, elastics, velcro replacement, buckle replacement etc. please allow 5 to 7 working days.

“Shoe Stretching” is a way to gain relief from shoes that are the correct size but are a little tight is some area. It does not change the size of a shoe, but rather helps to relax stiff leather in new footwear.
The principle is many shoes are made by stretching a stitched leather upper over a plastic last and fixed with a sole. So of course many can be stretched a little bit more.
Results are often difficult to predict but leather shoes that are leather lined, stretch better than synthetic materials. We can stretch the width and the length and we can focus on trouble areas around the joint such as bunions.
Overstretching can cause the soles to separate or worse seems to burst at the stitching. Better results are possible when stretching a full body of leather rather than interconnecting straps or perforated surfaces, weaves sandals etc.
It is impossible to predict the outcome in millimetres. Loafers are restricted by the band across the instep, and doc martins are made of tough leather which takes time (and pain) to break in.
When you leave shoes for stretching you are hiring a machine for 24 hours (we generally leave them on for 48 hours) paying for our expertise and vat at 13.5%. we do not stretch shoes twice for free.
We can only advise you from our experience as to the possibilities for your shoes but the choice to stretch your shoes is yours alone. Shoes are stretched at the owners risk. We have had many happy customers use and continue to use our stretching service.
